Oct 30, 2017 7:50 AM

The never-say-die Astros -- facing a four-run deficit in a pivotal Game 5 of the World Series with Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw on the mound -- pulled off the unthinkable in an epic game in an unforgettable Fall Classic.

Alex Bregman shot a walk-off single into left field off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen in the 10th inning to score pinch-runner Derek Fisher from second base and put an end to the second-longest World Series game in history, sending the Astros to a dramatic 13-12 victory on a Sunday night that drifted into Monday morning at Minute Maid Park.

All Dodgers starter Alex Wood needed was a little help. A little help was all he got from the Cody Bellinger, but "little" never looked so huge.

Bellinger stroked a go-ahead double in the ninth inning Saturday off Ken Giles as the Dodgers edged the Astros 6-2 in Game 4 of the World Series to knot the Fall Classic at two games apiece.

Astros, Dodgers Set World Series Mark With 8 Home Runs

Oct 26, 2017 7:45 AM

The Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers combined to hit a World Series-record eight home runs in Game 2 on Wednesday night.

George Springer hit the biggest, a two-run homer in the 11th inning to help give the Astros a 7-6 win.

"This was a night obviously the ball was carrying," A.J. Hinch said. "A lot of big-time players stepping up and getting big swings."

Houston became the first team in Major League history to homer in the ninth, 10th and 11th innings of a postseason game.

The five combined extra-inning home runs also were the most ever in a postseason game.

Masahiro Tanaka was the ultimate star in the Yankees' season-saving American League Division Series Game 3, 1-0 victory over the Indians on Sunday night.

The Indians still lead the series two games to one, but the Yankees have their ace Luis Severino starting Monday and Cleveland must, at the least, wait one more night for another champagne bath.

Red Sox Win To Stay Alive In ALDS

Oct 9, 2017 7:54 AM

The energized Red Sox relied on various resources to make sure Sunday was not the last game at Fenway Park this season.

From the bats of Hanley Ramirez (4-for-4, three RBIs) and Rafael Devers (homer, three RBIs) to the shutdown relief of David Price (four innings, four K's) and the glove of Mookie Betts, the Sox answered in a big way to down the Astros, 10-3, in Game 3 of the American League Division Series.

Stanton Finishes Season With 59 Home Runs

Oct 2, 2017 7:45 AM

Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton led the majors with 59 home runs this season, the most by a big leaguer since 2001. Stanton spent the final three games chasing the ultimately elusive No. 60, his quest ending with a ninth-inning strikeout in Sunday's finale.

"Sums up my year and the appreciation of me for the fans, the fans for me," said Stanton, whose 132 RBIs also led baseball. "Closes the book on 2017."
